Job description

Company Description

IO Aerospace is changing the game in airborne remote sensing. With advanced camera technology, a unique aerial platform, and a clear vision of the future, we’re pushing boundaries and delivering actionable information and analytics across massive areas.

Role Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of our growing company. This role will be responsible for bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and payroll, while also preparing regular financial reports and supporting forecasting activities. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a start-up environment, balancing day-to-day financial management with strategic planning.

The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys taking ownership of day-to-day financial accuracy while contributing to the company’s financial planning. This role requires a hands-on attitude and experience building scalable financial processes.

You would thrive in this role if you’re equally comfortable digging into the details of daily financial operations, providing insights to leadership, and creating scalable systems that support rapid growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoicing, collections, and vendor payments.
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger records.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership.
  • Assist with cash flow management and forecasting.
  • Provide variance analysis, expense tracking, and budget support.
  • Support year-end reporting, tax filings, etc.
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of all financial transactions.
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support implementation of new accounting systems or process improvements as the company scales.
  • Develop financial models, forecasts, and budgets to support growth and decision-making.
  • Provide insight into cash flow, profitability, and operational efficiency.
  • Introduce tools and processes to improve financial visibility and reporting.
  • Drive automation and efficiency across finance and accounting functions.
  • Serve as the primary finance contact for internal teams, external auditors, banks, and investors.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a small-to-mid-sized or high-growth company.
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite) and strong Excel skills.
  • CPA designation (or working toward) is an asset, but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proactive, hands-on, and comfortable in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to provide insights, not just numbers.

Other Details

  • This is an in-person role at our Calgary office and the candidate must be already located in Calgary or the surrounding area.
  • Expected 40 hours per week
