Position Summary:

The Senior Abilities and Wellness Specialist is responsible for working with the Claims Coordinators in supporting the plants with the implementation and execution of Sofina Foods’ accommodation and return to work policies and programs pertaining to both occupational and non-occupational disability claims. The Senior Abilities and Wellness Specialist acts to maximize productivity and reduce health related costs and will have responsibilities in Occupational Health, Safety, and Claims Management

Key Accountabilities:

  • Working with the regional Claims Coordinator to manage the claim file including the appropriate document processing, with attention to time sensitive reporting requirements.
  • Manage complex workers compensation claims, challenges and appeals at the workers compensation board level,
  • Provide Senior Manager, Abilities and Wellness and identified stakeholders timely information regarding status and return to work prognosis.
  • Prepare information to support challenges from grievance to Tribunal, using the applicable worker’s compensation policies and legislation.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to assist local operations teams, HR and Health & Safety with early and safe return to work for employees on workers compensation or STD/LTD, through discussions with STD/LTD carrier, provincial workers compensation boards and treating practitioners.
  • Create evidence based graduated return to work plans for both occupational and non-occupational disability claims, in collaboration with treatment providers and relevant stakeholders, specific to the individuals’ medical needs and work environment;
  • Prepare and implement training materials for operations teams, and identified internal stakeholders on processes, best practices, awareness/education materials in multiple formats (online, print, webinar, presentations, etc.);
  • Work with Senior Manager to review and refine processes and procedures under the current Disability Accommodation Policy and ensure processes are sustainable and executed consistently by local sites;
  • Carry an active case load managing disability leave, accommodation and return to work for non-occupational for identified client groups within Sofina Foods Canada.
  • Develop and maintain database to track all claims and case management metrics/kpis; Providing reporting to Senior Manager as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A degree or diploma in a disability related field, or similar comparable experience
  • NIDMAR or regulated Health Care Professional an asset
  • A minimum 5+ years claims/ability management experience in occupational and non-occupational injuries
  • Experience working in a large organization with multiple labor contracts and unionized groups;
  • Intermediate knowledge of Human Rights and Labour Law, Workers Compensation Policies and Legislation
