Call for Board Directors
The Canadian Blood Services Board will be composed of talented and dedicated individuals who possess the appropriate expertise, credentials and experience to effectively govern the organization. While skills remain the most important consideration for board appointment, it is the goal of the Members (Provincial & Territorial Governments) and Canadian Blood Services that the board reflects a diversity of identities, age, colour, abilities, backgrounds, cultures, skills, geographies, perspectives and experiences that are representative of Canada’s population.
This Call for Board Directors is occurring due to the routine expiration of terms of current Directors. Applications are invited from Canadian citizens from all geographic areas of the country.
The Board is comprised of thirteen members that include the Chair, four Regional Nominees, two Consumer Nominees who have direct involvement or considerable knowledge of the system gained as a user of CBS products, and six General Nominees who have backgrounds in Business, Scientific, Medical, Technical and Public Health domains. The four Regional Nominees are appointed directly by the Ministers of Health for the Provinces and Territories of the relevant regions (except Quebec) and are not the subject of this Call for Directors.
The following six Board positions are scheduled for election in the Fall of 2025:
Previous governance experience, preferably with a large, complex multi-stakeholder organization is required for all Board positions. A breadth of knowledge of the Canadian health care system is highly desirable.
Directors are elected for four-year terms and receive honorariums. While most meetings are in Ottawa, Directors are required to travel to Board meetings that are held in various locations across Canada.
