Job summary

The House of Commons Administration is seeking a Security Project Officer (SPO) for a 12-month contract with potential extension. The SPO will manage and coordinate security operations for the Corporate Security Office, supporting the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and CSO in planning, design, and policy development.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education focused on engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, telecommunications engineering, computer science, physics or optical systems.

• Experience in coordinating multiple requirements with SMEs in architecture, engineering, security, construction and procurement.
• Experience in troubleshooting and debugging technical systems; managing client requests and clear communication of requirements.

Job Description

The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and Corporate Security (SAA-CS) is currently looking to staff a Security Project Officer (SPO) position for a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension.

The SPO is accountable for managing and coordinating security operations for the program, and other internal security projects for the Corporate Security Office (CSO), from planning, to close-out, in accordance with the House Administration project management practices and processes supporting the Corporate Security Office.

The SPO coordinates operations to assist the Security Project Manager (SPM) with day-to-day project management, design, security operations, data analysis, security screenings, and development of policy and operational maintenance plans.

Qualifications

Education :

• Successful completion of post-secondary education with a focus on the following: engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, telecommunications engineering, computer science, physics, optical systems.

Experiences :

• Experience in project coordination;
• Experience in coordinating multiple and conflicting requirements and priorities, and working with subject matter experts in the fields of architecture, engineering, security, construction and procurement;
• Experience in troubleshooting and debugging technical systems;
• Managing client requests, asking the right questions to clarify needs, making recommendations, and communicating requirements and expectations clearly.

Assets :

Experience or formal training in the following fields will be considered assets:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or other relevant fields;
• Knowledge of Nondestructive testing including Thermography, X-Ray, Ultrasound testing;
• Knowledge of Wireless communications, signal processing, telecommunications, and backend development;
• Knowledge of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

Working Conditions:

• Ability to work at heights (formal training will be provided);
• Ability to stand for extended periods;
• Ability to work on a construction site;
• Ability to work in tight spaces;
• Ability to work on a ladder;
• Ability to perform physical work and carry items up to 50 pounds;
• Candidates must be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance;
• The role requires that the incumbent work onsite and support operational requirements with flexible hours and occasional overtime. Hours of operations would range between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, with the requirement to work some evenings. The incumbent could be subject to travel throughout Canada.
