Job description

Schedule: Per diem 16 hours. Every Sunday and Monday, day shift.
Receiving general direction from the Security Director, Operations Manager, Manager of Special Investigations, Supervisor, or Charge Officer, the incumbent shall provide a safe and secure environment for all Hospital patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing Hospital security regulations and by continuously watching for and the timely reporting of safety hazards or unusual occurrences through patrol of assigned areas. Furthermore, the incumbent shall provide protective service and response for the protection of the people and property of the Hospital and assist with the day-to-day operation of the Department.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Protects people and property through patrol, investigation, monitoring alarms, and surveillance cameras.
2. Provides escorts for staff, visitors, and patients as requested.
3. Apprehends criminal violators when necessary and appropriate.
4. Provides emergency response to various situations.
5. Applies patient restraints as needed.
6. Patrols assigned areas, buildings, and grounds, paying attention to security problems, unsafe conditions, and improperly secured areas to prevent theft, injuries, or damages.
7. Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.
8. Prepares and submits written reports and daily event logs accurately and promptly.
9. Maintains accountability for valuables and evidence, ensuring safekeeping and proper documentation.
10. Acts as Security Dispatch Operator as needed.
11. Acts as a first responder to HazMat incidents.
12. Creates safety awareness among patients, visitors, and staff.

Working Conditions:

Work is fast-paced and physically demanding. The role involves walking within the hospital and around the campus, responding quickly to emergencies, standing for long periods, lifting and pushing patients, and potential hazards from encounters with aggressive individuals.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma required; higher education in criminal justice or related field preferred.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Valid MA driver's license or equivalent required.
• Must pass an annual criminal background check.
• Physical ability to lift patients (~50 lbs), walk/stand for extended periods, and withstand weather conditions.
• Training in De-Escalation, Healthcare Defensive Tactics, Handcuff Tactics, Pepper Spray Defense, First Aid/CPR/AED, C-Spine Immobilization required within specified timeframes.
• Obtain and maintain HazMat Levels 1-3 and IAHSS Basic Officer Certification within specified timeframes.
• Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations and manage high activity levels.
• Proficiency with security technology and troubleshooting skills.
