Creating the future vision for one of Winnipeg’s most prized treasures, Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC), located at 55 Pavilion Crescent in Winnipeg, is a not-for-profit organization overseeing the operations of Assiniboine Park, ensuring its ongoing redevelopment and financial viability. Our team is dedicated to creating and delivering extraordinary experiences for visitors and users of the Park and Zoo, fostering friendly, supportive, and effective relationships with stakeholders, the community, and the public.

The Opportunity

We are seeking part-time, permanent Security Officers responsible for safeguarding Park assets and ensuring the safety of visitors and staff. Under the daily supervision of the Head Security Officer and overall policy guidance from the Security Manager, officers will provide a range of professional proactive and reactive security services. These include crime prevention, conflict resolution, problem-solving, investigatory support, emergency medical response, crisis intervention, enforcement of Park and Zoo regulations, and monitoring/reporting on relevant statutes.

Security Officers will adhere to APC guidelines, policies, and procedures, prioritizing personal safety while protecting APC’s assets and reputation.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol the park and zoo 24/7 via vehicle, foot, or bike.
  • Secure restricted access areas (e.g., nature playground, Leo Mol, duck pond) and escort individuals off-premises if necessary.
  • Ensure buildings/areas are locked and secured at night; clear areas when required.
  • Unlock buildings or grant access to designated areas for employees, construction workers, events, or third parties.
  • Respond to security calls daily, providing assistance as needed.
  • Control traffic within parking lots and park boundaries.
  • Provide emergency medical response, including First Aid, CPR, and AED use.
  • Assist Winnipeg Police Service in escalated situations.
  • Follow protocols for missing persons.
  • Conduct mail runs for various APC departments.
  • Complete daily shift and incident reports (D3 reports).
  • Monitor access and egress using access cards.
  • Operate and maintain camera systems to assess threats and incidents.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid Manitoba Security Guard License.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification recognized by Labour and Regulatory Services - Workplace, Safety and Health.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team at all staff levels.
  • Previous experience or education in a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency with Outlook and Microsoft Office.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Physical capability to perform duties; documentation of physical capacity may be required.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Work shifts include days, evenings, and nights.
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, and cycling.
  • Ability to respond swiftly and responsibly in emergencies.
  • Physically demanding tasks, outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Tasks involve sitting, standing, pushing, lifting (up to 25-40 lbs), kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to push/pull loads up to 50-200 lbs.
  • Exposure to noise, animal sounds, chemical odors, and potential allergens from plants and animals.
