Location : Winnipeg, MB

Job Type : Full-Time & Part-Time Shifts Available (24 / 7 Rotating Schedule)

Pay : Competitive hourly wage based on experience and shift schedule

About the Role :

Staffmax is hiring Security Guards and Guardians to provide compassionate, reliable, and trauma-informed support in transitional housing facilities across Winnipeg . We are actively seeking Indigenous applicants as part of a culturally informed, reconciliation-focused hiring strategy.

You’ll be responsible for maintaining a safe and respectful environment for shelter residents and staff, while responding to situations with empathy, cultural understanding, and professional conduct.

Key Responsibilities :

Monitor shelter premises to ensure safety and security for all residents, visitors, and staff

Conduct regular walkthroughs and perimeter checks

De-escalate conflicts using non-violent crisis intervention techniques

Build rapport with shelter guests, many of whom may be Indigenous, vulnerable, or dealing with trauma

Enforce shelter rules respectfully and consistently

Document incidents clearly and accurately in daily logs

Respond to emergency situations (medical, behavioral, or security-related) and call appropriate services when needed

Collaborate with outreach workers, social workers, and emergency responders

Maintain confidentiality and uphold privacy and dignity of all individuals

Follow all health and safety protocols, including overdose prevention and response if trained

Requirements :

Able to pass a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check may be required)

Previous experience in security, community outreach, or shelter work is an asset

Comfortable working overnight, evening, and weekend shifts (rotating 24 / 7 coverage)

Strong communication and conflict resolution skills

Physically capable of standing and walking for extended periods

Security Guard License (preferred but not required for Guardian roles; training can be arranged)

Cultural sensitivity and understanding of trauma-informed care approaches

First Aid / CPR and NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) training are assets
