The Protective Security Officer safeguards personnel, property, and assets. This role is essential to upholding the organization's reputation and maintaining a secure environment by mitigating risks and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Securing Premises and Personnel Conduct routine security patrols on foot or a patrol vehicle and monitor property access Ensure a visible security presence to deter unauthorized activities
- Monitoring and Surveillance Operate and review surveillance equipment to identify security concerns Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances
- Inspection and Incident Reporting Inspect buildings, equipment, and access points to ensure security measures are in place Document and report irregularities or security breaches
- Access Control and Risk Prevention Manage entry and exit points, verifying identification and authorization Prevent losses and damages by proactively addressing security concerns
- Compliance and Legal Adherence Maintain the organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal and procedural requirements Apply relevant statutes and laws, including provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada, as applicable to the security industry
Qualifications
Required Qualifications :
- High School Diploma / GED (or equivalent)
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with no more than 3 demerits
- Clean criminal record / vulnerable sector check (issued within the last 3 months)
- Standard First Aid / CPR certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to understand and implement site-specific post orders
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members
- Professionalism in interacting with vulnerable populations while acting as an authorized agent on behalf of the client
- Physical fitness, including the ability to lift up to 100 lbs
- Ability to effectively de-escalate situations and apply problem-solving techniques in high-stress environments
Additional Assets :
- Previous experience in the security, policing or corrections industry
- Knowledge of applicable laws and statutes, including those in the Criminal Code of Canada relevant to the security industry
- Certification from a recognized provincial security training body
- Advanced First Aid / Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support certification
- Use of Force Certification (PPCT / CTSS)
