Job description

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a recognized program in Law and Security, Police Foundations or equivalent
  • Current and valid Ministry Security Guard License issued by the Private Security and Investigative Services Branch
  • Verifiable security, healthcare security or police experience is preferred
  • Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Use of Force and tactical handcuffing is preferred
  • Competent in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email
  • Thorough knowledge of investigative techniques, mediation skills and alternate dispute resolution methods
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Willing to take the initiative in emergency/crisis situations and accept responsibility
  • Applicants must possess good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides a safe and secure working environment for all visitors, patients, staff and general public
  • Responds to calls for service appropriately and in a timely fashion
  • Conducts preliminary investigations
  • Performs proactive foot patrols, spot checks and/or surveillance
  • Escorts personnel to and from parking lots or between buildings as requested
  • Conducts Parking and Smoking Enforcement duties
  • Locks and unlocks entrances and doors at scheduled times
  • Conducts function tests of security and parking related equipment
  • Accurately writes clear and legible reports
  • Actively looks for safety hazards and takes appropriate corrective action
  • Performs at all times in a manner consistent with safe working practices and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Will be in direct contact with switchboard operators and must carry pagers and hand-held tools
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
