Site Description: St. Mary's General Hospital is a 197-bed adult acute-care facility located in Kitchener, Ontario and a member of the St. Joseph's Health System. It specializes in cardiac care, respiratory care, outpatient surgery, general medicine, and 24/7 emergency services. The hospital has a strong reputation for patient-centered care and is home to the Regional Cardiac Care Centre. With a workforce of approximately 2,000 staff, physicians, and volunteers, St. Mary's offers a collaborative and dynamic healthcare environment.

Position Details:

Position: Full-Time Security Guard

Site: St Mary's General Hospital

Address: 911 Queen's Blvd, Kitchener, ON N2M 1B2

Hours: Continental Rotating (1900-0700/0700-1900 hrs)

Pay Rate: $19.78/hr.

Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement (AA) after 88 hours

Schedule Example:

1. Week 1 - Days - Mon-Tues, Fri-Sat
2. Week 2 - Days - Sun, Wed-Thu
3. Week 3 - Nights - Mon-Tues, Fri-Sat
4. Week 4 - Nights - Sun, Wed-Thu

Key responsibilities:

1. Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
2. Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
3. Access Control: Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
4. Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
5. Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
6. Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
7. Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
8. Collaboration with Hospital Staff: Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
9. Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards.

Requirements:

1. First Aid CPR - Level C Certification
2. A Valid Ontario Security Guard License
3. Vulnerable Sector Check
4. Valid Immunization Record including: MMR, Varicella, & 2 Step TB Skin Tests
5. Proficient in English (both oral and written)
6. Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred
7. Degree in Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Criminology, or Border Services is an asset
8. Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UoF) and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB)
9. Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB pre-employment certification training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
10. Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite, however Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6 month commitment to the position/availability
