Job summary

Vancouver Aquarium is seeking a Security Guard to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for guests, staff and volunteers. You will patrol the facility, respond to incidents, provide first aid and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC standards.

Flexibility is required for days, evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts as part of rotating schedules. Applicants must hold a BC Security Worker license and Occupational First Aid Level 2, with preferred experience in tourism.

Qualifications

• Must have valid BC Security Worker license.
• Must have Occupational First Aid Level 2.
• Secondary school diploma required.
• Previous security role in tourism a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe environment for customers, visitors, employees and volunteers by: crowd control, incident prevention and general safety.
• Assist with security incidents and building security rounds to ensure facility standards are met.
• Respond to security incidents and support loss prevention initiatives.
• Provide first aid and maintain first aid equipment and supplies.
• Complete and file first aid and security incident reports.
• Contribute to emergency protocols and safety improvements.
• Support a positive visitor experience by being open, friendly and responsive.

SUMMARY

While contributing to a great visitor experience, the Security Guard is responsible for Vancouver Aquarium security including public safety (crowd control & crime prevention response), primary first aid and building and grounds security. Please note this role participates in shift rotation including days, evenings, weekends and/or overnight shifts so flexibility of availability is required.

ONLY CANDIDATES WITH A VALID SECURITY LICENSE AND OCCUPATIONAL FIRST AID LEVEL 2 WILL BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provides a safe environment for the Vancouver Aquarium’s customers, visitors, employees and volunteers by:

• Assisting with crowd control, incident prevention and general safety;
• Making regular security rounds to ensure that the facility is in compliance with Aquarium standards;
• Responding to security incidents;
• Implementing loss prevention strategies.

Provides first aid and support by:

• Assisting to ensure Aquarium compliance with WorkSafeBC first aid and safety regulations;
• Responding to first aid calls and providing first aid for customers, visitors, employees and volunteers;
• Assisting with the maintenance, auditing and stocking of first aid equipment;
• Properly completing and filing first aid and security incident reports.

Enhance the overall Vancouver Aquarium visitor experience by:

• Being open and friendly, and answering questions as required, or referring questions to someone who can assist;
• Actively ensuring a great visitor experience;

Improve the Vancouver Aquarium and its processes by:

• Assisting with development of emergency protocols;
• Maintaining organizational safety standards;
• Reducing environmental impact and supporting “green” of operations;
• Demonstrating the organization’s values and expectations for conduct;
• Performing additional duties of a similar nature or level as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Required - Secondary school diploma;
• Required - Occupational First Aid Level 2;
• Required - BC Security Worker license;
• Preferred - One year experience as a security guard;
• Preferred - Experience working in the tourism sector.

SALARY RANGE: $20 - $30 PER HOUR
