Job summary

Gowest Gold Ltd is seeking a Security Guard to protect personnel and assets at the Frankfield Property, 32 km north-northeast of Timmins, Ontario. Reporting to the HR/Safety Manager, you will uphold security protocols and respond to emergencies.

The role offers a 7 days on, 7 days off 12-hour shift pattern; on-site work with a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol or drugs. Candidates must have PSISA training and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Post secondary education in law and security, with a minimum 1-year security or law enforcement experience, or a military background.
• Mandatory PSISA training and testing to become licensed as a Security Guard.
• Current Advanced First Aid, AED, and CPR certificate.
• Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to perform a variety of physical tasks and hold a valid Class G driver’s license.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager of HR, Health, Safety, Training & Security (or their delegate), Security Guard will be responsible for security and protection of personnel and company assets at Gowest Gold.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Monitor and enforce security protocol of all personnel; conduct searches of persons, vehicles and materials entering and leaving the property, or when deemed necessary.
• Provide inductions, instruction and monitoring of all personnel entering and working on site.
• Investigate incidents and concerns immediately according to security protocol.
• Respond and appropriately report all alarms and emergencies.
• Direct workforce during emergencies.
• Approach and correct those not complying with procedures.
• Document information with detail and accuracy following all incidents on appropriate forms or logbooks.
• Produce various security reports, as requested.
• Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation and commitment to satisfy our operation’s goal of being accident-free.
• Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
• Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Post secondary education in law and security, with a minimum 1-year experience in security or law enforcement, or a military background. Alternatively, Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma with the desire to complete a correspondence course in Law and Security may be considered.
• Mandatory Private Security and Investigative Services Act (PSISA) training and testing will be required to become licensed as a Security Guard.
• Current Advanced First Aid, AED, and CPR certificate.
• Comfortable working with various modes of communication (radio transmission, video monitors, security alarms).
• Aptitude and ability to learn and participate in various training programs (e.g. WHMIS, Explosive Recognition, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Spill Response, etc.).
• Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and able to deal effectively with others.
• Competent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to effectively follow verbal and written instructions.
• Able to perform a variety of physical tasks (distance walking, climbing stairs, and light lifting).
• Valid Class G driver’s license
• Maintains confidentiality in all company dealings

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• The role is located at the Frankfield Property, which is in the southwest part of Tully Township, approximately 32 km north-northeast of the City of Timmins, Ontario
• The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on and 7 days off (12-hour days). Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
