Job summary

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety and security of College of the North Atlantic's Burin buildings and residence complex.
• Patrol campus buildings, residences, parking lots, and other property; report hazards.
• Enforce policies including health and safety, smoking boundaries, and IDs checks.
• Monitor traffic and parking; issue citations during events or peak times.
• Maintain security logs and detailed incident reports.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies and coordinate with emergency services.
• Verify after-hours staff and contractors have proper access permissions.
• Operate College vehicles for patrols or transport as needed.
• Perform minor maintenance and safety tasks to keep areas safe.

Salary Information

CG23 - $ 22.50 - $ 24.74 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring the safety and security of College of the North Atlantic's Burin buildings and residence complex playing a critical role in maintaining a secure learning and living environment for students, faculty, and staff.
• Campus safety and patrols: conduct routine and unscheduled patrols of campus buildings, student residences, parking lots, and other College property to prevent unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, and other security threats.Identify and report any safety hazards or maintenance concerns.
• Policy enforcement: enforce College policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations, compliance with smoking boundaries, verifying student and staff IDs, and monitoring restricted areas.
• Traffic and parking management: monitor campus parking areas to ensure compliance with College traffic policies. Issue citations for parking violations and assist in traffic control during peak hours or special events.
• Incident reporting and documentation: maintain accurate security logs and prepare detailed reports on security breaches, safety concerns, and incidents.
• Emergency response: act as a first responder to after-hours emergency calls, fire alarms, and building alarms. Assess situations, take necessary actions, and coordinate with emergency services (fire, police, medical personnel) as required.
• Staff and contractor oversight: verify the presence and activities of after‑hours staff and contractors, ensuring they follow safety protocols and have proper authorization to access designated areas.
• Vehicle operation: operate College vehicles as needed to perform security patrols, respond to incidents, or transport supplies between campus locations.
• General maintenance and safety support: conduct minor maintenance and repair tasks to maintain a safe and functional environment.
• Customer service: provide assistance and guidance to students, staff, and visitors, including offering directions.

Screening Criteria

• Formal training or coursework in security, law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field (equivalencies will be considered).
• Recent, relevant experience providing security services to the general public.

Conditions of Acceptance

• Physically demanding position: involves extended periods of standing, walking, and patrolling both indoors and outdoors, often in varying weather conditions. The role requires physical stamina to complete security rounds and enforce campus regulations effectively.
• Shift Work: requires 12‑hour shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating schedule.
