About The Role:

As a CBRE Security and Life Safety Assistant Manager, you will assist in managing the overall safety and security of tenants, staff, contractors and public at First Canadian Place (the Block) consisting of over 3 million square feet of commercial office space.

The role will assist the security manager in overseeing all security staffing and physical equipment needs at the property including 3rd Party contractors to ensure compliance with legislative requirements, regulations and corporate standards.

First Canadian Place is an office complex in the Financial District of Toronto. The complex comprises an entire city block: First Canadian Place (100 King Street West), Exchange Tower (130 King Street West), and Northbridge Place (105 Adelaide Street West).

What You'll Do:

  • Oversee daily Security Operations and ensure tenant security concerns are addressed in a timely, effective, and diplomatic manner, providing assistance where possible.

  • Debrief incidents to identify gaps and develop or enhance procedures to mitigate risks.

  • Work with the National Security team to develop/implement/revise policies and procedures.

  • Meet with owners, principals, and tenants to discuss security-related concerns and resolutions.

  • Coordinate Fire Warden training and provide regular tenant rep meetings and training on building security and safety procedures such as fire drills, bomb threats, etc.

  • Ensure incidents are documented, investigated, and recorded for insurance and liability purposes. These include slip and falls or criminal activity.

  • Act as liaison for related needs like gathering forms, reports or documentation for other compliance and regulatory purposes.

  • Mentor, develop and motivate staff, lead by example, and provide/share knowledge with the team as may be required.

  • Manage 3rd Party contractors by liaising with management to ensure SLAs are being met including staffing levels, training, and that operational equipment like CCTV/ACMS is maintained. Tender contracts as needed include recommendations, vendor selection and award.

  • Stay current with trends and technology and encourage staff to continue personal development and participation within the property team and in the Security field including appropriate industry associations and municipal departments.

  • Foster effective relationships with external parties including first responders and social services.

  • Participate in the budget planning process as it pertains to Security and Life Safety, including the preparation of the 3-year Security plan, 10-year capital plans. Prepare appropriate sections of the monthly building report.

  • Prepare recommendations for security upgrades, research, obtain quotations and issue Purchase Order’s.

  • Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values. Guide team through the application of basic knowledge of practices and procedures. Work to build consensus

  • High School Diploma or GED with 5+ years of job-related experience. Prior shift manager or supervisory experience overseeing a security team and managing daily operations of a large multi-use complex preferred.

  • Experience working in a high-rise commercial multi-use complex and familiarity working with ACMS and CCTV is preferred. Must be knowledgeable in security legislation, fire and life safety systems and conducting workplace investigations.

  • In-depth understanding of fire alarm and security systems including ACMS, intercoms, elevator controls, 2-way radios, telephones, duress system, CCTV, CCURE, and key control.

  • Strong working knowledge of the criminal code as it applies to trespass, young offenders etc.

  • Requires the ability to explain complex concepts or sensitive information.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with an inquisitive mindset
