Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Section Leader to join our team within the Facilities Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation (FD&ER) and Infrastructure Development Group (IDG). In this pivotal role, you will lead the hiring, training, and development of Junior Supervisors and Supervisors, ensuring their readiness to oversee fieldwork at CRL. You will collaborate closely across teams to maintain high standards of safety, performance, and compliance. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in managing performance, implementing effective training programs, and supporting the transition of staff to leadership roles.

What will you be doing!

  • Leading and managing a team of Junior Supervisors and Supervisors, ensuring their progression through training programs such as the Training Qualification Card (TQC).
  • Reinforcing safe work practices and ensuring compliance with safety standards, addressing performance and time management issues.
  • Coordinating and assigning Junior Supervisors and Supervisors to various work activities within FD&ER and IDG, ensuring proper documentation and procedures are followed.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams within FD&ER, IDG, and other stakeholders to align with organizational objectives and operational needs.
  • Managing performance, including goal setting, providing feedback, and supporting career development for direct reports.
  • Developing and implementing training programs to ensure Junior Supervisors and Supervisors meet organizational standards for competence and performance.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior staff to build skills, reinforce leadership principles, and foster professional growth.
  • Reviewing safety documentation, performance logs, and compliance reports to ensure operational standards are met.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology or equivalent formal education.
  • Significant related experience in a specialized field, with demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Must have experience in planning and coordinating work in an operations/maintenance or decommissioning environment.
  • Experience
  • Minimum of three to five years in the operation, maintenance, or decommissioning fields, including supervisory experience.
  • Experience in leading teams, achieving team goals, and fostering positive relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of systems, structures, and components associated with large industrial or nuclear facilities is an asset.
  • Experience in the nuclear operational or decommissioning environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and constructive negotiation.
  • Experience with operational industrial electrical, steam heating, and ventilation systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of CNL’s Integrated Work Control process is beneficial.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of facility management and maintenance practices.
  • Strong understanding of radiological protection practices, safety codes, and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of licensing, regulations, and standards applicable to operations and maintenance of facilities.
  • Familiarity with the Canada Labour Code, WHMIS, CNSC regulations, and other relevant life safety codes (e.g., asbestos regulations).
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and detailed instructions.
  • Proficient in using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to mentor and lead teams effectively, ensuring high performance and safety standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing conditions without loss of composure.
  • Capability to work with various stakeholders, both internally and externally, to resolve technical and operational challenges.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and obtain Radiation Protection Group 3 certification.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
