BAIRD INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTJob Title: Secondary Teacher 6-12 (English Prefered) / District Communications DirectorReports To: Campus Principal and SuperintendentWork Schedule: 226 DaysEmployment Type: ExemptPay Grade: Based on teacher salary schedule with stipend for communications responsibilities (to be determined)

Primary Purpose:

To provide high-quality instruction in English Language Arts and related subjects, while also leading the district’s communication efforts. This dual-role position supports both classroom instruction and strategic messaging to inform and engage students, parents, staff, and the broader community.

Teaching Responsibilities (50%):
  • Provide engaging instruction at the secondary level.
  • Prepare lesson plans that meet district curriculum guidelines and TEKS standards.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, adapting instruction to support diverse learning needs.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and manage student behavior in accordance with district policies.
  • Preferred: Ability to teach Speech/Communication and/or Digital Media courses.
  • Participate in campus and district professional development and planning activities.
Communications Director Responsibilities (50%):
  • Develop and implement district-level communications strategies, including internal and external communications.
  • Create content for and manage district communications platforms (e.g., website, social media, newsletters).
  • Coordinate media relations and act as the primary contact for press inquiries.
  • Support campus leaders and departments in promoting events, programs, and achievements.
  • Maintain visual and brand consistency across all public-facing materials.
  • Assist with crisis communications, including timely dissemination of urgent messages.
  • Preferred: Experience with graphic design tools, video editing, and digital content creation.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid Texas teaching certification in English Language Arts (grades 6–12 or 7–12)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing social media platforms and basic digital content tools

Preferred:

  • Certification and/or experience in Speech, Communication Applications, or Digital Media
  • Background in journalism, public relations, marketing, or school communications
  • Experience with website content management systems and mass communication tools (e.g., ParentSquare, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
Working Conditions:
  • May require occasional evening or weekend duties related to public events or communications needs.
  • Regular travel between campuses may be necessary.
