Job summary

IT International Telecom Canada Inc. is seeking an experienced Second Officer for offshore operations aboard our vessel fleet. The role requires offshore experience, strong navigation oversight, and compliance with international maritime safety standards.

The successful candidate will lead vessel safety tasks, maintain navigational accuracy, and collaborate with crew across nationalities while upholding the company’s high engineering and safety practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience in navigation and safety operations on a vessel.
  • Familiarity with shipboard safety protocols and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Attending to safe navigation, and monitoring the vessel’s performance.
  • Conducting the shipboard Familiarization Program, if appointed
  • Acting as Safety Officer, if appointed
  • Inspecting and maintaining navigational aids, including radio equipment (ie: GMDSS)
  • Preparing passage plans, reports and logs, and updating charts and publications
  • Keeping detailed records of changes and updates
  • Operating work boats, if appointed
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Master, OIM, or Chief Officer
  • Doing navigation, maneuvering and cable operation checks
  • Reporting defects or irregularities to the Master or Chief Officer immediately
  • Understanding and implementing the Safety Management System
  • According to rank, understanding international and national regulations, codes and guidelines, Company policies and instructions on emergency duties
  • Implementing the HSE plan at the team level
  • At least 2 years experience in rank and on similar type of vessel
  • Ability to work with different nations and respectful of different cultures

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Required Certificates:
  • Certificate of Competency Watchkeeping Mate (STCE II/I)
  • Valid marine medical, with no limitations
  • STCW Safety Training (Vasic Safety, Survival Craft, Advanced Firefighting)
  • Marine Advanced First Aid or Marine Medical Care
  • Ship Security Officer & Bridge Resource Management, considered an asset
  • Valid passport - Interested and available for national and international travel.
