Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Manager - Food & Nutrition Services, or designate is responsible for the preparation of foods for residents, staff, patrons, special functions and Meals on Wheels.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the preparation and cooking of regular and therapeutic foods.
  • Ensures correct portioning and attractive presentation of foods.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of standardized recipes.
  • Responsible for sanitary food handling and proper storage of food.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of work area and equipment.
  • Assists in requisitioning supplies.
  • Participates in meetings to discuss food/menu related matters.
  • Provides courteous and tactful customer service to residents, families, staff, visitors, and other patrons.
  • Participates in fire drills, evacuations, and other safety measures.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • Successful completion of an Ontario Apprenticeship program for the Certified trade of Cook, together with a minimum of 3 years experience as an Institutional Cook
  • Successful completion of the food handler training program as mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care

Skills/Abilities:

  • A genuine understanding of the needs of the elderly is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrated ability to practice good lifting and safety and sanitation techniques
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act

Assets:

  • A demonstrated ability in leadership skills and supervision is an asset

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must be willing to work shift work, including weekends and holidays
  • Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at point of conditional offer
  • Prior to commencing employment, will be required to review and attest/affirm to all Pioneer Ridge Staff Immunization Policies
  • Must pass work fitness test
  • Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Must have successfully undergone a "two step" tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment
  • Prior to commencing employment, must undergo a successful Offence & Professional Misconduct Declaration Process
  • Must successfully complete all mandatory training as required by the Corporation on an annual basis
