Job Description
WHAT’S THE JOB?
Based at a world-class Horizon North camp facility, this position typically involves a 20 days on and 10 days off schedule, with 10-12 hour workdays. Transportation is provided from a pickup point in Edmonton.
The Second Cook assists in kitchen operations and maintenance, as well as cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas, tools, equipment, pots, and dishes.
This position is safety-sensitive and requires drug, alcohol, and fitness testing as a condition of employment.
Your work will include :

  • Ensuring consistent quality standards in food preparation according to client requirements, and maintaining safety and sanitation in the kitchen in accordance with Food Safe protocols.
  • Preparing food items for sandwiches, including selecting and cutting breads, wrapping sandwiches, slicing cold meats and cheese, and distributing meats, fillings, garnishes, and other ingredients on breads.
  • Visually inspecting the appearance of all cold foods for proper color and presentation to ensure appeal.
  • Checking and controlling proper storage of all food items in refrigerators and freezers to maintain freshness.
  • Preparing and setting up a full salad bar for lunch and dinner.
  • Ensuring effective use of food stocks.

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  • Minimum of five years’ cooking experience in a similar or hotel/institutional environment preferred.
  • At least FoodSafe Level I certification. Advanced food safety certifications like SafeCheck or HACCP are assets.
  • Ability to achieve a score of 80% or higher on the mandatory WHMIS test.
