Seasonal Roadway Maintenance Leader I - Auxiliary Maintenance up to 9 months

As a Roadway Maintenance Leader I, you will be a working foreman in charge of a crew engaged in performing many differing aspects of the auxiliary structures program. You will be responsible for the work performed by the members of the crew, ensuring compliance to all methods and procedures in respect to the task being performed.

What will you do?

  • Lead crew on various job sites in relation to predetermined schedules
  • Assess field conditions upon arrival and direct the setup of equipment and manpower
  • Initiate appropriate traffic control and related safety measures
  • Take on an active role in the driving and/or operating of equipment as well as all laboring tasks and activities as required
  • Support and assist the Roadway Maintenance Leader II by performing additional tasks including scheduling, First Calls, handling 311 notifications, SAP data entry and update, and maintenance of Auxiliary Structures Asset inventory
  • Evaluate the current capabilities and productivity of individual crew members
  • Assign work tasks to laborers and others
  • Repair and maintain Auxiliary Assets such as chain link and wooden fence, guardrail and deterrent posts, sound walls, streetscape, stairs, etc.
  • Demonstrate the use of equipment and tools to train individual crew members as required
  • Ensure that appropriate safety protocol (PPE) and related occupational health and safety regulations are observed by the crew
  • Other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by Supervisory Training
  • A minimum of 3 years experience with Auxiliary Structures, chain link and wooden fence, guardrail and deterrent posts, sound walls, streetscape, stairs, and/or concrete work, including operation of all vehicles and associated equipment, such as skid steer and crane truck
  • Experience leading crews and mentoring employees
Assets
  • Training or certifications in the use of skid steer, chainsaw, knuckle boom crane, and/or ground disturbance
Skills required for success
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the work of the class
  • Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in auxiliary structures and of the relevant occupational hazards and safety precautions including ground disturbance and pipeline agreements
  • Good written and oral communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to maintain simple records
  • Proficiency in SAP, Google Applications (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, APPsheet), and databases

Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s licence with Air Brakes Endorsement (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment
  • 4 x 10 hour shift opportunity
  • Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required
