Job Description
The contract runs from April to the end of October. Responsibilities include:
- Grass Maintenance: maintaining town-owned property, mowing lawns, trimming.
- Special Events: setting up and taking down equipment, supporting recreation during events, maintaining downtown area.
- Horticulture: gardening tasks such as weeding, planting, pruning, watering shrub beds and planters.
- Cultural Field Maintenance: maintaining sports fields, including mowing, fertilizing, paint lining, and diamond dragging.
- General Parks: park maintenance, playground repairs, inspections, and general construction.
- Forestry: caring for trees along boulevards, trails, and parks, including trimming, pruning, and removal.
Job Requirements
- High School education or equivalent with formal parks-related training or experience.
- Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing; DZ preferred for equipment operation.
- Experience in municipal parks, horticulture/forestry, or sports field/turf maintenance.
- Flexible availability including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to follow directions, work independently, and handle situations appropriately.
- Ability to read and understand WHMIS labels, manuals, logs, and incident reports.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and WHMIS procedures.
- Ability to operate parks equipment such as trucks, trailers, mowers, tractors, and snow removal tools.
- Effective communication skills with staff, park users, and the public.
- A Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
