Job summary

Dawson Road Maintenance is seeking a Seasonal Operator to safely operate heavy equipment, clear snow and ice, and support road maintenance across BC. You will report to the Road Foreperson and work in a temporary, full-time capacity in multiple communities.

Applicants should have 2+ years in road maintenance or construction, a Class 1 (preferred) or Class 3 license, and be able to drive commercially. This role involves travel within the province and practical, hands-on duties in all weather

Qualifications

• Minimum two (2) years of road maintenance and/or construction experience.
• Valid Class 1 preferred, or 3 Drivers license is required.
• Two (2) years commercial driving experience is an asset.
• Experience in snow removal is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of road construction materials and processes.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment on roads in all weather conditions.
• Follow supervisor directions and daily production schedule.
• Complete work reports and maintenance logs.
• Perform pothole patching, yard and shop housekeeping, and sign/bridge maintenance.
• Perform minor preventative maintenance and greasing.

Job description

Dawson Road Maintenance is looking for Seasonal Operators, holding a Class 1 or 3 license, who will skillfully navigate frozen roads, clearing snow and ice, along with other duties to ensure our roadways are safe for all travelers.

In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Road Maintenance, working in a temporary, full-time position of Seasonal Operator, reporting to the Road Foreperson. This position requires an experienced operator to meet company production objectives and work within specified tolerances We are currently hiring in Williams Lake, Likely, Horsefly, Alexis Creek, Tatla Lake, Anahim Lake, and Bella Coola, B.C and may require some travel throughout our great province.

What Success Looks Like

• Must prioritize safety of self and others in all aspects of the job
• Work collaboratively with all team members to successfully complete tasks at hand, and other day to day duties to keep our roads and service area safe and clean
• Ability to perform unskilled manual work requiring little previous training or experience but involving physical effort
• Operate heavy equipment in all weather conditions, on public roadways in a safe and appropriate manner
• Follow direction of the Supervisor regarding daily production schedule and activities
• Maintains a daily activity of work in progress and status of completion
• Maintain proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment
• Complete all work reports and maintenance logs
• Chain up wheels when conditions require
• Perform other road maintenance tasks as required, such as, but not limited to: pothole patching, yard and shop housekeeping, sign and bridge maintenance and cleaning
• Perform minor preventative maintenance tasks, including greasing

What You Bring

• Minimum two (2) years of road maintenance and/or construction experience
• Valid Class 1 preferred, or 3 Drivers license is required
• Two (2) years commercial driving experience is an asset
• Experience in snow removal is considered an asset
• Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements
• Heavy Equipment Operating Certificate an asset
• Able to manage electronic reporting using tablets
• Minor equipment maintenance
• Be physically able to complete a commercial vehicle trip inspection
