Seasonal Mixologist

Under the general supervision of the Location Manager and within established policies, procedures and guidelines, the Mixologist is required to possess an extensive knowledge of bar products, including but not limited to wines, craft beers and cocktails. The Mixologist will support training of staff on bar products as well as host tastings of products with visitors. They are also required to maintain the bar area and to mix alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks according to recipes as provided and complete routine cashier functions.

Niagara Parks compensates at a rate of $24.84 per hour for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Incumbents must be at least 18 years of age and have received their Smart Serve Certification.
  • Completion of a Secondary School Diploma and has the basic reading, writing, and understanding of mathematical operations.
  • The Mixologist will be required to complete, at minimum, The Wine Appellations of Ontario Course and must be willing and able to pass a detailed product test, both written and verbal, to prove their ability to speak to guests about wines, beers and cocktails.
  • A Mixology Certificate from any Community College is preferred.
  • Wine training, such as Level 1 Wine Certification, as well as a College Beer Specialist program is preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience Bartending or working at a Winery or Brewery is preferred.
  • Current or previous leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to deal with the public with courtesy is essential.
  • Incumbents should have a strong knowledge of the history of cocktails and a rich appreciation of the ingredients and techniques used to create innovative drinks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations :

  • Mixes alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to NPC recipes and standards.
  • Creates original specialty drink features with a focus on Niagara Products and communicates with staff about each feature.
  • Supports in the training of restaurant staff on wine, beers and cocktails product knowledge.
  • Provides oversight of other bar staff and provides direction on product tastings, standard procedures, and menu items.
  • Provides recommendations to guests on wines / beers / cocktails and provides knowledge and insight on Niagara Wines and Craft Beers.
  • Hosts “tastings” with guests and acts as the locations “product knowledge expert” as required.
  • Liaisons with industry representatives to learn more about their products.
  • Works with property managers to oversee the “wine to go” program and makes recommendations to improve sales.
  • Drives cocktail menu changes to ensure fresh, innovative, and seasonally accurate cocktails are available on the menu.
  • Serves beverages and meals as required.
  • Checks the bar for proper stock levels and re-stocks as required.
  • Ensures quantities received matches quantities ordered and informs the Manager or Designate of any discrepancies or needed supplies.
  • Counts their float to ensure the till at the beginning of the shift balances. Ensures the float has the same value when returned at the end of the shift.
  • Accurately operates POS System to enter transactions.
  • Ensures there is enough change available to cash out guests.
  • Follows cash handling procedures according to established procedures.
  • Ensures all records are accurate and reviewed by the Manager or Designate.
  • Directs customer concerns to the Manager or Designate for resolution.
  • Keeps bar area clean and organized.
  • Loads and unloads the glasswasher as necessary.
  • Rings in Tour Groups and assigns gratuities accurately.
  • Is responsible for the security of all bar inventory (alcoholic and non-alcoholic); maintains daily inventory counts and reconciles with manager or Designate at end of shift.
  • Assists Manager or Designate in completing monthly inventory.
  • Ensures machinery is cleaned and maintained according to NPC, Niagara Region and Vendor specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Designate.

Other Activities :

  • Works in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act, First Aid, AGCO Regulations, Recycling Program and established Policies and Procedures
  • Provides guests with information regarding NPC Attractions and Events.
  • Promotes a positive image of the Niagara Parks Commission
  • Provides quality customer service that meets NPC Standards.
  • As assigned.
