Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

To apply for this position, you must have a live PIN with the NMC UK.

The shift pattern for this role is Monday to Friday, 0800-1800x2, 0800-1730x2.

The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) at the New Victoria Hospital and the GGH Theatre suite are seeking scrub practitioners to join their teams.

You should be a First Level Registered Nurse or Registered Operating Department Practitioner. Experience in the perioperative environment is desirable. The DSU at the New Victoria includes 8 theatres, a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), a treatment room, and a 23-hour stay ward. The theatre sessions cover specialties such as Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Maxillofacial, Gynaecology, Plastics, and a Pain Service. The department is committed to increasing capacity, requiring the successful candidate to care for patients with increasingly complex needs, aligned with British Association of Days Surgery (BADS) guidelines.

The GGH theatre suite comprises 13 theatres across various specialties including General Surgery, Brachytherapy, Oncoplastic/Breast Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedics (elective/trauma), and Interventional Radiology. Previous peri-operative experience is advantageous but not essential, as the department offers team support and ongoing education.

Both units are fast-paced environments requiring collaborative working. The successful candidate may need to work across multiple areas during shifts. The units promote ongoing personal and professional development. Flexibility and initiative are essential, as the role involves becoming dual trained and skilled in at least two areas, e.g., Scrub and Anaesthetics.

You will also be expected to engage in multi-site working within South Sector NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to meet service needs. Evidence of current or predicted NMC/HCP registration is required before starting. Candidates unable to provide confirmation of registration by the projected start date will not be shortlisted. The role requires PVG Scheme membership/Disclosure Scotland Check. Due to high application volume, this advert may close early.
