Job description

BWXT Medical Ltd. is a trusted source for the development and manufacture of nuclear medicine for biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceutical companies, and academia partners. Headquartered in Kanata, Ontario, BWXT Medical Ltd. employs over 300 highly-skilled people in Kanata and Vancouver, British Columbia.

We are currently recruiting for a Scientist, Radiochemist for our production facility in Kanata, Ontario.

Location: On-site; 447 March Road, Kanata, ON.

Position Summary:

Performs and is responsible for varied scientific or applied scientific functions in the design, development, testing, and commissioning of project outputs, commonly identified as active pharmaceutical ingredients of radioisotopes. Has responsibility for the technical performance of development projects or developed processes. Performs review and approval of process changes as Technical Design Authority, in accordance with company Quality procedures.

Responsibilities:
  1. Reports to the Manager or Director of Research and Development.
  2. Accountable for project activities within budgetary constraints and reporting guidelines.
  3. Makes independent decisions and initiates actions within project parameters and guidelines; recommends solutions for problems affecting project objectives.
  4. Represents the company on committees, boards, panels, study groups, and/or commissions at national and international levels.
  5. Identifies, plans, and carries out necessary research, design, and development associated with assigned projects.
  6. Prepares estimates for work, including costs.
  7. Supervises assigned staff on projects.
  8. Coordinates tasks internally and externally to achieve project objectives.
  9. Provides technical assistance and guidance, including impact assessments of changes to products.
  10. Performs hands-on technical tasks for new projects as needed.
  11. May serve as Technical Design Authority, authorizing changes and approving procedures, reports, and specifications.
Qualifications & Additional Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in radiochemistry, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, or metallurgy.
  • Proven record of high-quality research.
  • Leadership and motivational skills.
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Problem-solving skills for complex issues.
  • Experience in radiochemical separations, especially for actinium, radium, thorium, and uranium, is highly valued.

The pay range in Ontario (CA-ON) is expected to be between $82,000 and $126,000 per year, with potential benefits including medical, retirement, and others.
