Job description

Fusion Pharmaceuticals - Scientist II, Biology

Fusion Pharmaceuticals, a member of the AstraZeneca Group, is a clinical-stage oncology company focused on developing next-generation radioconjugates (RCs) as precision medicines. Fusion connects alpha particle emitting isotopes to targeting molecules to deliver payloads to tumors. Our portfolio includes FPI-2265, FPI-1434, and FPI-2068, with ongoing clinical trials, and we are pursuing combination programs with DNA Damage Response Inhibitors (DDRis) and immune-oncology agents. We operate a GMP-compliant radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility to support our pipeline.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Scientist II, Biology, to contribute to our research initiatives. This lab-based role is located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Responsibilities
  1. Execute experiments in the lab as needed.
  2. Lead drug discovery projects by setting objectives, delivering, and communicating results within timelines.
  3. Contribute scientific input to drug development and support go/no-go decisions.
  4. Develop, adapt, validate, and perform bioassays in a fast-paced research environment.
  5. Identify and develop new techniques and molecular targets to expand programs.
  6. Design and conduct therapeutic efficacy and biodistribution studies on radiopharmaceuticals in rodent models.
  7. Produce high-quality, well-documented data with attention to detail.
  8. Assist in data preparation for IND and patent submissions.
  9. Analyze, interpret, and present experimental results internally and externally.
  10. Lead and supervise research associates and technicians on projects.
Qualifications
  1. Ph.D. in Molecular/Cell Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with 0-3 years of experience; MSc with 6+ years of industry experience will be considered.
  2. Experience in cancer biology is required.
  3. Experience with development and validation of in vitro bioassays; biologic screening assays knowledge is a plus.
  4. Experience with in vivo cancer models in small rodents.
  5. Proficiency in biochemical methods (protein quantification, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, UV/VIS spectroscopy) and cell biological methods (cell culture, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry).
  6. Experience working with external CROs is preferred but not required.
  7. Ability to adapt and develop unfamiliar methods quickly.
  8. Proficiency in English (verbal and written).
  9. Effective team communication skills.
  10. Knowledge of GLP guidelines.
  11. Experience handling radioactive and biohazardous materials is an asset.
  12. A strong publication record is preferred.
