Job description

Alpha-9 Oncology is seeking a highly motivated Scientist I with a strong background in radiolabeling using various isotopes (e.g., 177Lu, 225Ac, 68Ga) to join our innovative R&D Radiochemistry Group. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including biology, pharmacology, and formulation, to drive the development and evaluation of radiopharmaceuticals. You'll have the chance to make a real impact on our mission while enjoying a dynamic work environment that fosters learning and career progression.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Radiochemistry, you will play a key role in shaping the radiochemistry program by supporting in vitro/in vivo studies and formulation evaluations, enabling you to see the direct results of your contributions and grow alongside a passionate team. This role is based in our Vancouver office.

How You'll Contribute

  • Independently apply radiolabeling methods to enable preclinical evaluation for compounds with imaging and therapeutic applications.
  • Design and execution of radiochemistry experiments leading to robust radiolabeling processes.
  • Development of analytical methods, notably those involving radioactivity (e.g., radio-TLC, radio-HPLC).
  • Active participation in discussions and presentation of results in team meetings
  • Diligent, clear and accurate recording of experiment procedures/outcomes. Ability to collate results to data packages, when appropriate.
  • Support of lab maintenance and upkeep (e.g., routine instrument care, inventory management)
  • Firm adherence to all safety and compliance requirements, including radiation surveys, contamination control, and radioactive inventory/waste management.

The Skills You Bring

  • Ph.D. in Radiochemistry, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related field with 1+ year industry/postdoc experience, or M.Sc. with 4+ years industry experience.
  • Ability to understand, plan and execute (with practical experience) radiolabeling experiments and subsequent analysis. Experience with both Alpha and PET emitters preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, identify unusual results and design experiments to establish root cause.
  • Excellent observational, organizational, data management, and documentation skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong passion for the discovery of targeted imaging/therapy in a fast-paced start-up environment
