About you: You are a passionate and creative scientist proficient in planning and executing experiments, maintaining equipment, preparing high-quality reagents and buffers, and performing various molecular biology and biochemistry laboratory techniques. You thrive in a fast-paced lab environment, are comfortable with bench work to troubleshoot and optimize assays, and are eager to contribute to product development by presenting innovative procedural and scientific ideas that benefit the Vital ecosystem.

What you'll be doing:

  1. Develop, optimize, and validate new assays for our diagnostic pipeline.
  2. Design, execute, and document experiments following CLSI guidance.
  3. Construct, modify, and follow SOPs in collaboration with the development team.
  4. Analyze clinical samples for assay verification and validation.
  5. Collaborate across teams to ensure integration of reagents, consumables, and instrumentation.
  6. Support team goals to meet project timelines.
  7. Transfer methods to internal or external partners, supporting collaborations with robust results and QC procedures.
  8. Ensure development work complies with Vital's quality management system (QMS) and documentation standards.
  9. Author and refine SOPs to enhance quality and expedite the assay pipeline.
  10. Provide assay development support to research, manufacturing, downstream formulation, and engineering teams.
  11. Communicate results clearly through reports and presentations to support decision-making.
  12. Contribute to departmental strategies and improve lab requirements and processes.

What you'll need:

  • MSc or PhD in biochemistry, biology, immunology, hematology, or related field with 3+ years of industry laboratory experience.
  • Experience executing experiments in a wet lab, preferably in industry.
  • Competency in immunochemistry and biochemical assays.
  • Experience with assay verification and validation, including SOP development, for regulatory agencies like FDA, Health Canada, or EU.
  • Strong communication skills for results and concepts.
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload and high learning agility.
  • GMP experience is a plus.

Bonus points for:

  • Familiarity with electronic QMS.
  • Experience in the medical device industry and regulatory pathways.
  • Laboratory automation/liquid handling experience (e.g., TECAN).
  • Ability to write and maintain SOPs.
  • Experience with clinical samples in assay development.
  • Experience in fast-paced startup environments.
  • Appreciation of puns!
