Job description

The Office of Science Education (OSE) is seeking two candidates for graduate student positions related to teaching and learning in higher education. These positions are open to Master’s or Doctoral students who are interested in developing their knowledge and skills in teaching and learning.

The successful applicants will contribute to a range of activities currently undertaken by the Office of Science Education to support teaching and learning initiatives. Areas of focus include providing support for evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning and contributing to the organization of an annual conference on higher education research and practice. These positions will be supervised by the OSE Director.

Tasks:

  • Contributing to the development of approaches for collecting evidence of effective teaching and learning.
  • Contributing to the planning and coordination of an annual conference for teaching and learning in higher education.
  • Liaising with partners in SALTISE Office at Dawson College to coordinate McGill’s participation in the annual conference.
  • Liaising with McGill graduate students and instructors to coordinate their engagement with science education research and their participation in the annual conference.
  • Planning workshops and other teaching support activities.
  • Developing program materials.
  • Communicating with students, instructors, facilitators, speakers, and/or participants.
  • Facilitating sessions that focus on pedagogical topics.
  • Gathering and summarizing information for planning and evaluation.
  • Preparing project documents and reports.
  • Advertising instructor and student support offerings and other activities.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent information literacy skills.
  • Experience and/or interest in planning large events for students and faculty.
  • Experience and/or interest in developing workshop content and learning materials.
  • Experience and/or interest in using facilitation and presentation skills.
