WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL CANADA SEEKS SCHOOLS PROGRAM COORDINATOR FOR IWBF WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Location: Ottawa, Ont.

Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and detail-oriented professional, with strong communication and interpersonal skills, to join our Ottawa team as Schools Program Coordinator. The role is suited for an energetic team player with core competencies in results delivery, relationship building, communication, and initiative. A background in community and corporate event activations, parasport, and a passion for sports are a must.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships and collaborating with the event delivery team, the Schools Program Coordinator is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive schools program and supporting a variety of corporate and community events/activations.

The Schools Program Coordinator must be able to organize, plan, and deliver industry-leading initiatives and events. Working closely with staff and WBC members, this position functions as a key team member while also working independently to advance projects.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement the Schools Program in the Ottawa/Eastern Ontario area.
  2. Work with existing community partners to deliver the Schools Program.
  3. Contribute to expanding the educational wheelchair basketball resource guide and oversee its distribution to schools.
  4. Coordinate school visits, deliver sport demonstrations, and manage athlete bookings.
  5. Inform teachers and students about community-based wheelchair basketball programs and participation opportunities.
  6. Coordinate the delivery of the wheelchair rental program.
  7. Manage equipment inventory, including storage and transportation during visits or rentals.
  8. Develop and maintain a database of school contacts.
  9. Create resources, promotional materials, and website content.
  10. Oversee ticketing strategies and coordinate school ticket packages for the World Championships.
  11. Coordinate school arrivals and departures during the Championships.
  12. Develop school-based “try it” days in collaboration with school boards and educators.
  13. Administer surveys, collect feedback, testimonials, and track data from schools.
  14. Conduct annual program assessments and develop strategies for sustainability.
  15. Deliver corporate and community wheelchair basketball activations as needed, in coordination with the Marketing and Fundraising team.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Undertake other tasks as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director.
  • Represent WBC professionally at all times as an ambassador to the sport community.
Qualifications
  • University or college degree in Administration or a related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in program development and event management.
  • Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and digital tools.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Fluency in both official languages is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the amateur sport community is an asset.
  • Experience with sports organizations, coaching, or teaching is an asset.
Additional Requirements
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen required.
  • Must be over 25, hold a valid Class G driver’s license, and be comfortable driving a large cube truck.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada (citizenship, permanent residency, or refugee status), with a valid Social Insurance Number.
Terms
  • 2-year full-time position (37.5 hours/week), from October to October.
  • Based in Ottawa, currently working virtually.
