WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL CANADA SEEKS SCHOOLS PROGRAM COORDINATOR FOR IWBF WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Ottawa, Ont.) Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and detail-oriented professional, with strong communication and interpersonal skills, to join our Ottawa team as Schools Program Coordinator. The role is suited for an energetic team player with core competencies in delivery of results, relationship building, communication, and initiative. A background in community and corporate event activations, parasport, and a passion for sports are a must.

Reporting to the Executive Director of the IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships and collaborating with the event delivery team, the Schools Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning and execution of a comprehensive schools’ program and supporting a variety of corporate and community events/activations.

The Schools Program Coordinator position requires the ability to organize, plan, and deliver industry-leading initiatives and events. Working closely with other staff and WBC members, the position functions as a key member of a team while possessing the ability to work independently to advance projects.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the Schools Program in the Ottawa / Eastern Ontario Area;
  • Work with existing community partners in delivering the Schools Program;
  • Contribute to the expansion of the educational wheelchair basketball resource guide and oversee its distribution to participating schools;
  • Coordinate school visits, deliver sport demonstrations, and manage athlete bookings;
  • Inform teachers and students about community-based wheelchair basketball programming and participation opportunities in their area;
  • Coordinate the delivery of the wheelchair rental program;
  • Manage the equipment inventory, including storage and transportation of equipment during school visits or through the rental program;
  • Develop and maintain a database of school contacts;
  • Create resources, promotional materials, and website content;
  • Oversee ticketing strategies and coordinate ticket packages for schools attending the Championships;
  • Coordinate school arrivals and departures during the Championships;
  • Liaise with school boards, educators, and administrators to develop and implement school-based “try it” days;
  • Administer surveys, collect feedback and testimonials, and track reporting data from schools;
  • Conduct annual assessments of the program and develop strategies for its long-term sustainability;
  • Deliver corporate and community wheelchair basketball activations as required, in coordination with the Marketing and Fundraising team.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Undertake other tasks as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director;
  • Represent the organization professionally at all times as an ambassador of WBC.
Qualifications
  • University or College degree in Administration or related field;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience in Program Development and Event Management;
  • Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Proficiency with MS Office and digital tools;
  • Flexibility, initiative, and self-motivation;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Fluency in both official languages considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of the amateur sport community considered an asset;
  • Experience with sports organizations, coaching, or teaching is an asset.
Additional Requirements
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen required;
  • Must be over 25, hold a valid Class G driver’s license, and be comfortable driving a large cube truck.
Eligibility

Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have refugee protection, and legally entitled to work in Canada, with a valid Social Insurance Number.

Terms
  • 2-year full-time position (37.5 hours/week), from October to October;
  • Travel required;
  • Currently working virtually, based in Ottawa.
