Job summary

Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is hiring a School Psychologist/Psychological Associate to provide psychological assessment, diagnostic and consultation services for students. The role supports the school population within a 35-hour week and 10 months plus 10 days per year, in Peterborough, Ontario.

The position requires a Masters in Psychology, registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, and about five years of related experience; a Doctorate is preferred.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent, 35 hours per week, 10 months + 10 days per year, existing vacancy

Reports to: Senior Manager Professional Services

Salary: $53.53 to $59.48 per hour (Pay Band 13-MV1)

This is a unionized position within the CUPE Local 5555 bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable Collective Agreement.

Main Responsibilities

The purpose of the School Psychologist/ Psychological Associate position is to provide psychological assessment, diagnostic and consultation services for students.

• Conducts comprehensive psychological assessments selecting and administering standardized and restricted-use tests, formulating diagnosis, identifying and making recommendations, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
• Schedules and organizes appointments and consultations for students, parents, teachers and support staff, establishing priorities, developing and implementing schedules, and making and responding to related telephone calls.
• Communicates diagnosis and results of assessments and consultations to all the stakeholders.
• Provides Clinical supervision of Psychoeducational clinicians, interns, and students.
• Compiles clinical records collecting, maintaining, and releasing tests, reports and other information obtained during assessments.
• Designs, implements and evaluates intervention programs for students to address learning, mental health and behaviour problems.
• Builds capacity of School Board staff in the areas of learning, mental health and behavior disorders.
• Works collaboratively with professional, support and teaching staff, meeting to discuss relevant issues, to develop and, in some instances, implement solutions to identified concerns
• Assists with the review, revision and development of new procedures for carrying out the work of the Department researching best practices, developing and implementing new procedures, and standardizing report writing.
• Conducts in-service sessions and prepares written materials for Board personnel, school staffs, parents/guardians and the community on a variety of related topics.
• Provides support and leadership to system-level initiatives pertaining to educational, mental health and behavioural issues as required (e.g. Tragic Events Response, Suicide Awareness, Safe Schools, Early Intervention and Prevention, Achievement Testing, Gifted Screening, etc.)
• Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Mandatory Minimum Qualifications

• Masters degree in Psychology.
• 5 year’s direct related experience.
• Doctorate degree with 1 year’s experience preferred.
• Current registration as a psychologist or psychological associate in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario to work with children and adolescents in the area of school psychology, clinical psychology or neuropsychology.

Specialized Skills Required

• Able to provide the controlled act of diagnoses in learning disorders and mental health disorders in children and adolescents under the Regulated Health Professions Act
• Ability to administer and interpret comprehensive psychological tests and write comprehensive psychological reports.
• Ability and authority to make and communicate an autonomous diagnosis according to the regulations set out by the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others.
• Valid drivers license and use of own vehicle.
• A commitment to service excellence.

Supervision

Working Conditions

• School and office environment, moderate pressure to meet deadlines, some travel.
• Moderate amounts of attention to detail, concentration and observation; some dealing with difficult people, some driving a vehicle, moderate amounts of lifting materials under and over 5 Kg, some mental exertion and keyboarding.
