Job summary

Red Deer Public Schools is seeking a Lab Technician to support Lindsay Thurber High School by coordinating and preparing laboratory supplies for staff and students. The role includes assisting with demonstrations, experiments and field work while maintaining safe handling of materials.

Candidates should hold a Chemical Laboratory Technology diploma or equivalent, be comfortable working independently, and possess strong technology skills.

Qualifications

• Chemical Laboratory Technology diploma or related equivalent.
• Comfortable working independently, with minimal guidance.
• Must have strong technology skills.

Responsibilities

• Respond to teacher requests, assembling materials and equipment for laboratory activities including preparation of solutions, cultures, specimens and equipment.
• Assist with supervision and science field work.
• Label chemicals and solutions in accordance with WHMIS 2015 and GHS.
• Maintain current Safety Data Sheets.
• Manage inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Communicate with teachers regarding science courses, labs and demonstrations to maximize feasibility and safety.
• Purchase of supplies and laboratory equipment, and assist in budgeting for the department.
