Job summary

Province of Nova Scotia Regional Centres for Education is seeking a custodian/janitor for school cleaning and maintenance duties. Under supervision, the successful candidate will perform a wide variety of custodial tasks in accordance with CUPE Local 3876 agreements. Applicants must be able to perform duties, apply modern cleaning methods, identify safety hazards, and maintain supplies.

A Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry search are required. Closing date: Nov 4, 2026.

Qualifications

• Must be physically able to perform duties.
• Knowledge and ability to apply modern cleaning methods with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Clean all assigned areas daily according to standards.
• Maintain supplies on hand to carry out duties.
• Report breakdowns or damage to supervisor.
• Secure building when vacated and activate security system.
• Perform floor care including stripping, sealing, waxing, and burnishing.
• Handle snow and ice as needed.
• Collect litter and perform general clean-ups.
• Comply with policies and safety regulations.
