Job summary

Winnipeg School Division is seeking school bus drivers to transport students safely on assigned routes during the school year. Drivers will perform daily safety inspections, maintain cleanliness and adhere to provincial and division policies.

Applicants must hold a Class 2 License and a School Bus Operators Certificate; paid training is provided for eligible Class 5 license holders with a clear five‑year abstract. Strong communication and safety mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• Paid training provided for Class 5 license with a clear driver’s abstract for the past 5 years.
• A clear driver’s abstract for the past 5 years is required.
• Ability to work under supervision, supervise passengers, and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive students to and from school following a prescribed route every school day.
• Perform daily vehicle circle checks and safety inspections; document and report as required.
• Comply with all Winnipeg School Division and government regulations, laws and policies.
• Communicate clearly with parents, school staff, passengers, coworkers and the public in a courteous, professional manner.

School Bus Drivers

Transportation Department

Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, a school bus driver ensures the safe and systematic transportation of students to and from school according to the procedure set out by the Province of Manitoba and the Winnipeg School Division.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Safely drive students to and from school, in a timely manner, following a prescribed route, on a daily basis during the school year
• Safely transport students to and from other school related activities
  Perform daily vehicle circle check safety inspections, documenting and reporting according to prescribed guidelines
• Comply with all Division and government regulations, laws and policies
• Communicate clearly and interact with parents, school employees, passengers, co-workers and the general public in a courteous, professional manner as required

Qualifications:

• Applicants must possess a Class 2 License and a School Bus Operators Certificate
• (Note: The Winnipeg School Division Transportation Department will provide paid training for suitable applicants who hold a Class 5 license and a clear driver’s abstract for the past 5 years)
• A clear driver’s abstract for the past 5 years is required with the application
• If you hold a Class 5F Manitoba Driver's License, proof of registration/passing mark of Class 2 Knowledge AND School Bus Knowledge test through MPI is required
• Ability to work under minimal supervision
• Ability to supervise passengers under care
• Ability to communicate in a pleasant, courteous and effective manner
• Exposure to supervising large groups of children is an asset
• Must respect confidentiality of work, be safety-minded, courteous and able to demonstrate an appreciation for the importance of customer service
