Job summary

Qualicum School District in British Columbia seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist for a 0.60 FTE temporary assignment. Commencing as soon as possible, the successful candidate will support students with communication and language needs within the school setting.

Responsibilities include collaborating with teachers, staff, parents and outside agencies; developing and implementing IEPs with Case Managers; integrating ICT to enhance teaching; and adapting curricula to meet diverse learner needs.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology.
  • Registration with BC College of Speech and Hearing professionals.
  • Experience with a variety of student learning needs.
  • Experience working in the school system.
  • Experience in diagnosis and remediation of language difficulties in early learners.
  • Training with augmentative communication programs and computer technology.
  • Experience diagnosing and remediating speech and language impairments in school-aged children.
  • Experience implementing phonemic awareness and beginning reading strategies.
  • Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet individual student needs.
  • Experience using assessment tools for planning instruction and intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in planning developmentally responsive learning experiences reflecting learners' needs.
  • Collaborate with staff, students, parents and outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Consult with Case Managers to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Integrate ICT to support teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curriculum for diverse learners.

Education

Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology
Registration with BC College of Speech and Hearing Professionals
Experience with diverse learners
Experience in school system
Experience in language learning remediation
Augmentative communication program experience
Phonemic awareness and early reading support
Curriculum modification and adaptation
Assessment-based instruction planning
