Job summary

The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority is hiring a School-Based Counsellor to deliver direct mental health support to First Nations students relocating to Sioux North High School in Sioux Lookout. The role is full-time and on-site, providing ongoing presence and culturally safe care during the school day.

Responsibilities include counselling, risk assessment, crisis response, and collaboration with school staff and external providers.

Qualifications

• Diploma in mental health, social services, or closely related field (degree preferred).
• Current registration with a regulated body authorized to practice psychotherapy in Ontario (e.g., OCSWSSW, CRPO, CPA).
• Training in suicide risk assessment, trauma-informed care, and related areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual mental health counselling and case management for youth.
• Identify student needs, assess risk factors, and develop treatment goals.
• Support students in addressing issues contributing to risk (bullying, academic stress, trauma).
• Maintain detailed clinical documentation and communicate with the Clinical Supervisor.
