Reporting to the Senior Manager, Project Controls, the Project Controls Specialist manages controls related to cost, schedule, risk, lessons learned, and change management on large construction projects.

This role is based in Kakabeka, ON.

What you will be working on:
  • Implementing and maintaining controls on large construction projects for cost, schedule, risk, lessons learned, and change management, ensuring compliance with approval processes and timely completion of planning and scheduling deliverables.
  • Providing or developing high-level cost estimates during project execution to validate contractor change requests.
  • Drafting monthly project progress reports for executives and quarterly reports for the project Board.
  • Providing monthly project accruals and forecasts to the Finance team.
  • Training contractors on project control systems for progress reporting.
  • Evaluating codes for Construction Site Cost Reporting, Tax assessment, and Asset Management during project execution.
  • Creating Expenditure Authorizations and Purchase Requisitions as initial steps in issuing Purchase Orders.
  • Participating in project execution planning and developing the Project Execution Plan.
  • Analyzing and recommending project schedule, cost estimates, and forecasts.
  • Contributing to the development of project control plans and processes.
  • Overseeing system enhancements and maintenance, and recommending process improvements for major power plant asset construction.
  • Developing strategies to optimize contractor performance and minimize claims.
  • Recommending organizational improvements.
  • Identifying and communicating cost and schedule risks, and suggesting mitigation plans.
  • Tracking and analyzing risks, estimating probabilities.
  • Demonstrating commitment to HSE standards and safety procedures.
  • Maintaining effective communication and teamwork with peers.
  • Providing support to Project Managers and Senior Managers in Operations, Construction, and Engineering.
What we are Looking For
  • 5+ years experience as a Project Control Specialist.
  • P.Eng and PMP preferred.
  • Proficiency in Cost Control Systems, Primavera, @Risk, MS Word, Excel, SharePoint.
  • Experience in developing project execution plans, cost estimates, and schedules based on plant design concepts.
  • Training experience with contractors on progress reporting.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Excellent critical thinking, troubleshooting, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Sense of urgency and commitment to goals in a fast-paced environment.
