A leading construction company in Canada is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to manage large construction projects. This role involves cost control, scheduling, and risk management to ensure project success. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in project controls and strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships with various stakeholders.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Project Controls, the Project Controls Specialist is responsible for the controls (e.g., approvals, tracking, forecasting, and management reporting and analysis) on large construction projects associated with cost, schedule, risk, lessons learned and change management.
This role is based out of Kakabeka, ON.
What you will be working on :
Implements and maintains controls on large construction projects for cost, schedule, risk, lessons learned, and change management. This includes ensuring expenditure approval and other project management procedures are followed and that planning and scheduling deliverables are completed.
Provides input or able to develop high level cost estimates during execution phase to validate contractor’s change order requests.
Drafts monthly executive level project progress reports and quarterly project Board reports.
Provides monthly project accruals and forecasts to Finance.
Trains contractors on the use of project control systems for reporting project progress.
Ensures that codes needed for the Construction Site Cost Reporting Guide, for Tax assessment, and Asset Management, Fixed Asset, are evaluated during project execution.
Creates Expenditure Authorization, Purchase Requisition as an initial step in issuing the Purchase Order.
Participates in execution planning for projects and assembles the Project Execution Plan.
Analyzes and recommends the project schedule, cost estimates and project cost forecasts.
Provides input to the Project Controls area’s plans and directions.
Oversees enhancements and daily maintenance of project control’s systems, and for recommending improvements to processes and procedures for the construction of major power plant assets.
Develops strategies to optimize contractor performance and minimize claims.
Recommends improvements to organizational structure.
Identifies cost and schedule issues and risks to the Project Manager and suggests action plans.
Tracks, categorizes, quantifies, and establishes probability of risks identified by the project’s team members.
Acts as a role model in demonstrating HSE orientation and adheres to Health, Safety and Environment procedures / rules and standards.
Ensures on-going effective communication and teamwork with peers.
Provides appropriate customer support relationships with Project Managers and Senior Managers (e.g., Finance and Pre-Construction) in Operations, Construction and Engineering.
What we are Looking For
5+ years experience as a Project Control Specialist
P. Eng and PMP preferred
Experience and ability to use the following :
Cost Control Systems and Applications
Planning and scheduling tools (Primavera)
Risk Assessment tools (FCD, @Risk)
Reporting tools (MS Word, Excel); and
Document Control Systems (SharePoint)
Ability to develop project execution plans
Experience developing cost estimates / forecasts and projects schedules based on sound plant design concepts
Experience in providing instruction training with contractors for progress reporting
Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships
Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges
Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, presentation and problem-solving skills
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrates a sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in challenging, fast paced environment
Superior written and verbal communication skills at multiple levels
