The Policing and Community Safety Services Division of the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety has a challenging career opportunity for a mature, motivated, responsible, team-oriented individual in Regina (3 positions) and Yorkton (1 position), with the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Investigation Unit. As an Investigator/Inspector, the position's primary role will be to conduct investigations and enforcement under the authority ofThe Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act.
As an Investigator/Inspector, you will conduct plain clothes investigations and enforcement activities in high-crime neighbourhoods and communities, targeting private and commercial properties being habitually used for illegal activities such as, but not limited to, the illegal growth, sale, consumption of a controlled substance; child sexual abuse; sex trade activities; organized crime and gang-related activities; the illegal sale of intoxicants; and the illegal sale, use, transfer, exchange of beverage alcohol.
The successful candidate will be required to pass the Provincial Qualifications to be authorized to carry an approved firearm, O.C. spray, and baton, and must pass the Provincial Standards for Use of Force approved by the Saskatchewan Police College.
Additionally, you will be required to undergo psychological testing, criminal record check, background checks, qualify for a heightened level of security clearance, possess a valid driver's license, successfully complete a period of position-specific training, including Use of Force, and work varied shifts with extended hours.
The successful applicant will be appointed as a Special Constable pursuant to The Police Act, of 1990.
The knowledge and skills required for this position would typically be gained by the successful completion of training in a police academy/college supplemented by extensive policing experience conducting investigations, enforcement and intelligence gathering in areas of drug enforcement, vice investigations, and organized crime/gangs. A combination of education and experience in a related law enforcement field which includes use-of-force training, may be considered. Experience conducting surveillance is desirable. Expert opinion/testimony experience regarding drug trafficking and/or gangs would be an asset. Current and former members of a police agency are encouraged to apply.
