Job description

Position:

Scaler
Location: Hearst, ON

GreenFirst is looking for a Scaler to deliver fiber (round wood) of the required quality to meet the business unit’s needs on time. Ensure effective planning to provide the most cost-effective services to maximize sawmill productivity and efficiency.

  • Comply with all health, safety, and environmental standards, as well as applicable regulations and laws.
Responsibilities:
  • Promote and provide a safe workplace, seek improvements, support Health & Safety Program.
  • Support compliance with collective agreement and sound union/management/employee relations.
  • Maintain a communication program to keep your team informed regarding mill and department priorities.
  • Report to the Supervisor, Woodyard/Scaler.
  • Operate the Weight Scale Station and maintain accurate inventory records; monitor inventory levels in the yard and submit reports to the Supervisor Woodyard/Scaler.
  • Select, inspect and test roundwood deliveries for quality.
  • Carry out studies for volume tables in yard.
  • Conduct data collection and wood measurement on roundwood deliveries, mass/volumes, weight factors as required by the Forest Resources Management Group.
  • Perform administrative work and support duties.
  • Rotate on an on-call basis at the scale as required.
  • Report and explain deviations to inventories to Supervisor.
  • Recommend changes/improvements to the Supervisor, Woodyard/Scaler.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Education: College diploma or equivalent work experience; Scaler’s License preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years in a related field is preferred.
  • Bilingual: An asset.
