The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) is the governmental agency charged with the responsibility of providing an economical and environmentally conscious integrated solid waste management system for the County of Essex (County) and the City of Windsor (City). The mission of the EWSWA is to provide programs to manage the solid, non-hazardous waste generated in the County and the City in an environmentally sound manner through processes which include, but are not necessarily limited to, reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, and landfilling.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Weigh and process incoming vehicles delivering waste material using the GEOWARE software program. Record proper customer account numbers, type of waste being delivered and any other information required
  • Monitor and coordinate traffic flow (from the scale house) and direct customers to the proper area for disposal. Advise management of any noncompliance
  • Collect tipping fees through Debit, Cash, and Credit Card. Maintain a cash float
  • Balance money received with the GEOWARE-generated cash summary at the end of each shift
  • Receive and answer phone inquiries and forward phone calls as required to appropriate staff
  • Maintain a clean scale house and washroom as required
  • Responsible for opening and closing the scale house daily and locking the landfill gate at the end of the day as required
  • Collaborate with Accounting Clerk A – EWSWA Admin Office regarding account information, delinquent accounts or other customer-related matters
  • Other duties/tasks as assigned
What You Bring
Education and Commitment to Growth:
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or recognized equivalent
Experience and Expertise:
  • Minimum of three (3) months of related clerical experience
Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers for data entry
  • Proficient and accurate typing and financial recording skills
  • Experience handling cash and debit/credit card transactions
Other Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel within Windsor and/or the County of Essex
  • Must provide a Ministry of Transportation Driver Abstract (Uncertified)
  • Must provide a Police Information Check (PIC) document
Hours of Work:
The minimum hours of work shall be Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a total of four (4) hours per week, plus additional shifts as required.
What We Are Offering
As a CUPE 2974.1 position, this role is on Band 3 with a starting hourly rate of $26.48.
