Job summary

ACCIONA is seeking a SCADA & DWRR Design Specialist to support design, integration, and interface activities for major infrastructure projects in Canada. You will assist with design deliverables, coordinate interfaces, and ensure compliance with project requirements and safety standards.

The role requires 3–6 years of experience in SCADA/DWRR systems, a relevant engineering degree, and strong collaboration with designers, subcontractors, and stakeholders to enable successful system integration.

Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of experience in SCADA & DWRR design for railway or major infrastructure projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
  • Knowledge of interface management, systems engineering, V‑lifecycle, requirements and configuration management.
  • Familiarity with IBM DOORS or DOORS NG to trace contract mandates to design evidence.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); CAD and Bluebeam familiarity.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities; capable of coordinating with subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate SCADA & DWRR design and interface deliverables with designers and subcontractors.
  • Review design documentation for safety, reliability, integration, and constructability.
  • Track deliverables and monitor compliance with project schedules.
  • Assist Design Lead in coordinating technical activities and design reviews.
  • Prepare progress reports and maintain action logs and meeting records.
  • Support RFIs, DCNs, and FCNs reviews related to SCADA & DWRR systems.

The SCADA & DWRR Design Specialist is responsible for supporting the design, integration, interface, and delivery activities associated with the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Distributed Wireless Radio Relay (DWRR) systems for the project. The role assists with the preparation, review, coordination, and tracking of SCADA & DWRR design and interface deliverables while ensuring compliance with project requirements, technical standards, safety objectives, and schedule commitments. The Design Specialist works closely with the Design Lead, designers, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders to support successful system integration and project delivery.

Coordination and Supervision of Design and Interface Deliverables
  • Support the review and coordination of SCADA & DWRR design and interface deliverables produced by the Designer and subcontractors.
  • Participate in meetings with designers, technical advisors, suppliers, subcontractors, and third‑party technical experts.
  • Track deliverables and support monitoring of compliance with project schedules.
  • Review design documentation and identify potential issues related to safety, reliability, integration, and constructability.
  • Assist the Design Lead with coordinating technical activities and design reviews.
Design Coordination and Integration
  • Support reviews of conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design documentation related to SCADA & DWRR systems.
  • Coordinate design information between SCADA & DWRR systems and other project disciplines.
  • Review design packages to verify inclusion of cable routing, fiber and cable connections, power requirements, equipment layouts, installation details, and integration requirements.
  • Assist with the review of subcontractor design submissions and shop drawing documentation.
  • Support coordination activities to ensure SCADA input/output signals and interfaces are identified, documented, and confirmed.
Subcontractor & Interface Management
  • Support coordination activities with subcontractors, suppliers, designers, and stakeholders.
  • Track, monitor, and assist in closing CRR comments in coordination with the Design Lead, Contracting Authority (CA), and third‑party reviewers.
  • Maintain interface registers, action logs, and issue tracking documentation.
  • Assist in coordinating interface resolutions and stakeholder feedback.
Review and Approval Process
  • Support the evaluation of RFIs, DCNs, and FCNs related to SCADA & DWRR systems.
  • Review subcontractor shop drawings, product data sheets, software release notes, and design documentation.
  • Assist with design review and approval activities.
  • Support compliance verification and documentation management activities.
Reporting Preparation
  • Prepare regular progress reports and status updates.
  • Track design actions, issues, risks, and interface activities.
  • Maintain records of meetings, technical decisions, and design reviews.
Risk Management
  • Identify potential technical and interface‑related risks.
  • Support development and implementation of mitigation strategies.
  • Escalate issues to the Design Lead when impacts to scope, schedule, safety, performance, or integration are identified.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • 3-6 years of experience working in projects/activities related to SCADA & DWRR systems design in railway or major infrastructure projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems preferred).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of SCADA & DWRR systems.
  • Knowledge of interface management, systems engineering, V‑lifecycle, requirements management, and configuration management.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or DOORS NG to trace contract mandates down to the design evidence.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with CAD and Bluebeam.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate activities with subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams.
  • Proactive problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Salary and Benefits

This role offers an annual base salary in the anticipated range of $100,000 - 130,000 CAD, with compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, this role includes a total rewards package that supports employee well-being, development, and long‑term growth, subject to company policies and applicable provincial employment standards.
