Job Description
The Saturday Youth Program Coordinator will assist in coordinating the afternoon’s activities for youth groups, including an afternoon snack. Coordinating with the Family Support Worker, they will ensure that activity plans are organized effectively. They will facilitate Saturday afternoon groups for youth activities. The youth drop-ins are meant to be a safe space to hang out, meet peers, play games, receive tutoring, and occasional outings.
What you’ll be doing :
Engaging with youth, playing games and assisting with filling out paperwork, resume writing, overseeing volunteering (for homework club)
Engaging in promoting leadership and peer mentorship
Bringing in speakers to mentor youth in areas such as financial goal setting, or other topics that may interest them
Hosting a participant-led group
Providing space for listening to the youth’s needs and wants, while also introducing activities that they might not have known would be interesting or exciting
Promoting an atmosphere that keeps the youth excited to come back to a safe, fun group to explore new opportunities and find paths suited to their future goals
Other duties as required
What you’ll need :
Education in the field (or working towards it) or a combination of training, education and experience would be an asset
Food Safe Certificate and First Aid Certificate required
Experience working with families / people from the DTES neighbourhood
Experience in facilitating / managing groups
Ability to facilitate families in accessing community resources and activities
Knowledge of local resources to refer participants to
Understanding of the importance of boundaries and flexibility, being adaptable to meet the needs of the participants while maintaining safety
Ability to direct, guide and problem solve with volunteers and families; while maintaining dignity, respect and relationships
Understanding of safety – in groups and in the community setting (for outings)
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
Good organizational and planning skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent relationship building skills
A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
Pay Rate : 25.49 per hour
