Job summary

Varsity Tutors is seeking a SAT Writing and Language tutor to join our Live Learning Platform. You’ll tutor online from home, set your own schedule, earn competitive rates, and help students improve scores and test readiness.

You’ll use our AI-powered Tutor Copilot, work 1-on-1 with students, and receive payments twice weekly. You’ll assess grammar, punctuation, and writing strategy, adapt to learning styles, and communicate clearly to guide mastery.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of SAT Writing and Language rules (grammar, punctuation, organization).
• Experience teaching passage-based editing and evidence-based revision.
• Ability to explain grammar concepts and writing strategies clearly.

What We Look For In a SAT Writing and Language Tutor

• Advanced Test Mastery: Deep knowledge of SAT Writing and Language section covering standard English conventions including grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure, plus expression of ideas including development, organization, and effective language use. Ability to explain subject-verb agreement, modifier placement, transition usage, and evidence-based revision while preparing students for high SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing scores.
• Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching passage-based editing strategies, identifying grammatical errors in context, and evaluating rhetorical effectiveness. Guides students through comma and semicolon rules, parallel structure correction, conciseness improvements, and data interpretation in informational graphics. Emphasizes reading context clues and eliminating answer choices systematically to maximize accuracy within time constraints.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with SAT Writing and Language question types and common challenges such as distinguishing between comma splice and appropriate comma use, choosing effective transitions, and interpreting quantitative evidence. Adapts instruction using official College Board practice tests, grammar rule summaries, and targeted drills. Requires minimum SAT Reading and Writing score of 700 for effective test preparation instruction.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
