Job description

Overview

The Sanitation Manager in our Chatham Village Foods plant will drive the daily core sanitation activities while leading a team of hourly and salaried associates. Responsible for the efficient sanitation of production equipment, machinery, physical plant, and grounds in accordance with all government, customer, and company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates shift activities through planning and communication with employees to ensure all sanitation objectives are accomplished in a timely, cost-effective, and safe manner.
  • Develops and controls plans and budgets for the sanitation area.
  • Develops and implements a master sanitation schedule/program for all processing and packaging equipment and storage vessels in accordance with company and FDA standards.
  • Oversees the storage and use of cleaning chemicals within the warehouse to prevent unauthorized access or use.
  • Controls and minimizes overtime labor costs.
  • Monitors the usage of all cleaning/sanitizing chemicals and agents to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with QA and responds to deviations from standards immediately.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and company policies.
  • Develops and schedules a proactive training program in safety and sanitary conditions for the further development of the Sanitation personnel.
  • Develops, trains, mentors, and coaches the employees and supervisor to the company and government standards to maintain sanitary conditions and safety of a food manufacturing facility.
  • Maintains good employee, corporate, and community relations.
  • Coordinates with department managers and shift supervisors to ensure a trouble-free shift start-up.
  • Maintains company standards for cleanliness, housekeeping, and safety in the plant area.
  • Ensures compliance with quality, food safety, and HAACP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer, and government standards.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned by Management.
Qualifications
  • BS/BA degree in business or industrial management or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of managerial experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a food-related industry.
  • Must have a strong understanding of sanitation design in a food-manufacturing environment.
  • Experience/training in Sanitation, COP systems, and chemical usage.
  • Working knowledge of sanitation equipment, methods, and chemicals, and with machinery in general.
  • Ability to teach or coach.

Working Conditions/Environment

Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, hear, sit, stand, walk, and occasionally bend while moving about the facility. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, and risk of electrical shock. Working around powered equipment, slippery floors, and dusty areas. Very hot conditions during summer seasons. The noise level in the office is moderate and loud in the plant. Earplugs, hairnets, beardnets (if facial hair exists), safety glasses, and slip-resistant/steel-toe shoes are required in the plant in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.
