Job Purpose
The Sanitation Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Sanitation department runs smoothly and efficiently, overseeing daily housekeeping and line cleans. They will supervise sanitation workers at their assigned location, ensure duties are performed correctly, and manage supplies and equipment to keep everything in good working order.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Monitor day-to-day responsibilities of sanitarians (all shifts) for housekeeping, infrastructure, and equipment cleans.
- Provide guidance and leadership to develop a high-performance team and support other teams to meet cleanliness standards.
- Maintain relationships with other departments to ensure continuous operations and communicate sanitation issues at all management levels.
- Ensure employee safety through proper training and enforcement of policies and procedures.
- Train employees on chemical safety.
- Coach sanitation team members, providing tools and resources for skill development and growth.
- Determine and maintain line cleaning schedules, including equipment, framework, ovens, etc., per the Master Cleaning Schedule.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Production, and Scheduling for line cleans.
- Collaborate with Quality department to meet environmental standards, including equipment swabs, Listeria, and Salmonella testing.
- Notify QA for visual inspections and ATP swabs as required.
- Maintain chemical and supplies inventory.
- Schedule and manage attendance of sanitation staff.
- Create SRF / ERF as needed.
- Work with other departments on sanitation tasks, pest prevention, spills, and leaks policies.
- Train sanitarians on proper practices.
- Partner with operations to meet line clean expectations.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during cleaning tasks.
- Report problems to Senior Sanitation Manager timely.
- Approve vacation requests.
- Conduct incident, accident, and non-conformity investigations, reporting, and follow-up actions.
- Issue disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Follow health and safety regulations, GMP, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- College Diploma or minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in food industry sanitation.
- 2-3 years of supervisory experience in food manufacturing or consumer products industry.
- Additional training, degree, or related experience preferred.
- Previous sanitation experience and physical ability to work in a production environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication skills across all levels.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible for overtime and on-call shifts.
- Leadership skills to motivate and develop teams.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, lift up to 50 lbs, and work at heights.
- Attention to detail and efficiency in a dynamic setting.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to hot temperatures from ovens.
- Close proximity to others, within a few feet.
- Compliance with ventilation, cleanliness, lighting, and temperature standards.
Physical Requirements
- Standing, sitting, kneeling, and repetitive movements.
- Use of safety equipment such as gloves, hair nets, steel-toed shoes, and beard nets.
- Ability to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work at heights.
