Job description

We are in search of a Sandblaster to join our team in Grimshaw, AB.

The Sandblaster, under the direction of the Senior Superintendent- Mechanical Programs, will primarily be responsible for cleaning and refurbishing metal trailer exteriors, industrial equipment and other surfaces using specialized equipment and techniques. This position is responsible for the operation of sandblasting equipment to clean and prepare metal surfaces for the next step in the maintenance process.

Job Duties
  • Abrade surfaces of metal/hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment.
  • Clean and refurbish metal and industrial equipment using sandblasting equipment.
  • Shovel or pour abrasives, such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
  • Mask specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
  • Grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Study blueprints or layouts to determine how to lay out work pieces or saw out templates.
  • Trim, scrape, or deburr objects or parts, using chisels, scrapers, and other hand tools and equipment.
  • Follow company policy and procedures and government legislation, including adherence to proper health and safety standards and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure that process is completed within set timeframes, and work as a member of multidisciplinary team to ensure products are finished by set deadline.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Minimum 1 years' related experience in sandblasting or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of corrosion-control methods and processes.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word and e-mail.
  • Knowledge of controlling, adjusting, starting and stopping sandblasting equipment for sandblasting processes.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Valid Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
