Job description

Work Schedule: 5-5-4 rotation, 12-hour shifts. Although this is the established schedule, the company reserves the right to modify it as needed to meet operational requirements.

Compensation: Hourly, based on experience and qualifications.

Northern Sun Mining is a reputable mining company located 25 km southeast of Timmins, Ontario, where it owns and operates the Redstone concentrator. For almost a decade, Northern Sun Mining has been providing custom milling services to various mining communities, demonstrating exceptional recoveries of gold and platinum group metals.

Northern Sun Mining currently has an exciting opportunity for a Sample Prep Technician to join our Metallurgical department. Reporting to the Lab Supervisor, the ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing samples for analysis in a laboratory setting. This role is vital in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results while adhering to safety and quality standards. Please note that this is not a camp-based position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for daily preparation of mill samples for assaying: crushing and pulverizing samples, rolling samples to ensure proper mixing, splitting samples for both in-house and external assays, and filtering samples as required.
2. Maintain accurate records of all samples in both the logbook and computer database: logging mill run samples daily and recording concentrate values on an as-needed basis.
3. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
4. Work in compliance with prescribed company policies and procedures.
5. Be proactive with company safety initiatives.
6. Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Lab Supervisor and/or Engineering Personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma; post-secondary education in Chemical Engineering Technology or Metallurgical Engineering Technology or equivalent relevant work experience is an asset.
• Lab experience in an industrial environment is highly regarded.
• Basic Mill Process Operator Common Core is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Capable of performing physical tasks.
• Strong ability to accurately measure, record, and analyze data.
• Sound understanding of sampling procedures, quality control standards, and safety protocols.
• Ability to clearly report findings and collaborate effectively with team members.
• Advanced computer skills, including high proficiency in operating spreadsheets and word processing software.
