Samaritan's Purse Jasper AB Canada Disaster Recovery Specialist

Samaritan's Purse Canada is seeking a full-time Disaster Recovery Specialist in Jasper, AB. Are you a master at building connections, a team player, adept at problem solving, and a strategic thinker? Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian international relief organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, we have helped meet the needs of individuals affected by war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine, with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

As the Recovery Specialist, you will contribute to the long-term community recovery following disasters by establishing and strengthening connections between community members, social supports, government, and churches within Jasper, Alberta. You will work collaboratively with individuals and the impacted community to provide innovative solutions for sustainable, long-term recovery and support local churches in enhancing their role in community recovery.

This role is a remote full-time six-month contract position, working from a home office situated in close proximity to Jasper, Alberta.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Functioning as a convener of local and external support providers as well as local churches to support a collaborative approach to recovery.
  2. Attending necessary local recovery meetings to learn of potential service gaps and community needs.
  3. Developing and implementing a community entry strategy to gain knowledge of local context, demographics, available resources, and social supports.
  4. Directing affected individuals to the most appropriate agencies or organizations in the area for assistance.
  5. Providing individual case management support for local and external organizations leveraging SPC’s organizational approach to recovery.
  6. Maintaining relationships with community members, communicating progress, and supporting them through the recovery process.
  7. Offering guidance to individuals affected by disasters, helping them access provincial support systems and financial resources for reconstruction or repair of their homes.
  8. Following up with homeowners throughout their recovery journey and encouraging local church involvement where appropriate.

Qualifications:

  1. Commitment to Christian values and agreement with the Samaritan’s Purse Statement of Faith.
  2. Access to a private home office located in close proximity to Jasper, Alberta.
  3. Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in emergency management, social work, ministry, or other relevant field.
  4. 2-3 years of experience in emergency management, humanitarian aid, social work, or first response.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Adaptable to varying schedules, including evenings and weekends, as required based on community needs.
  7. Ability to work in and adapt to dynamic situations.
  8. Strong investigative, analytical, and organizational skills.
  9. Able to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Professional communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  11. Relationship builder with various demographics.
